Harris Campaign Consultant Tom Blakely Passes Away

Annapolis – On Saturday, March 15, 2008, Andy Harris for Congress campaign consultant Tom Blakely, 47, died after collapsing during a 5k run.

“We are extremely saddened by the loss of Tom Blakely,” said Andy Harris. “Tom Blakely’s wife and young daughters are in our thoughts and prayers.”

Tom Blakely was the architect of Harris’ campaign strategy that led to the 10 point victory over 18 year incumbent Wayne Gilchrest in the February 12th Republican Primary. Blakely served as media consultant and general strategist for the campaign. Blakely developed the overall messaging, direct mail, radio ads, and television ads for the campaign.

“Tom’s hands on approach in all aspects of the campaign were crucial to our success,” said Campaign Manager Chris Meekins. “His political expertise and personal friendship will be greatly missed.”

Tom Blakely was the President of Jamestown Associates, a New Jersey-based GOP consulting firm. A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, he has a long resume of consulting on campaigns across the country. In 2006, he consulted for Tim Walberg’s Republican primary victory over Michigan incumbent Representative Joe Schwarz. Blakely served as Director of Appointments for Gov. Christine Todd Whitman.
